Children aged from 6 to 11 months will be given a blue capsule (100,000 IU) while children from 12 to 59 months will be given a red capsule (200,000 IU).
The first round of the National Vitamin-A Plus campaign will be held across Bangladesh on Saturday 14th of July 2018, to provide vitamin-A Plus capsules to all children aged from six months to 59 months.
The National Vitamin-A Plus campaign will be held in 36 wards of five regions under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), they added.
DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Jakir Hasan said: “All necessary steps to prepare for the campaign have already been taken. In order to hold the campaign successfully, necessary training has also been given to the distributers.”
A total 82,015 children aged from six to 11 months, and 44,823 children aged from 12 to 59 months are expected to be given Vitamin-A capsules on Saturday, he added.
The campaign will be held from 8am till 4pm at a total 1,499 centres. Among them, 49 centres are permanent and 1,450 are temporary.
A total 2,998 health activists and volunteers, along with 183 first class supervisors and 103 second class supervisor will be involved in the campaign. Six supervisors will handle coordination.
The DNCC chief health officer said that initiatives have been taken to distribute leaflets and make mike-announcements to ensure the Vitamin-A capsules are distributed to all communities.
“Vigilance teams at the central and regional levels will coordinate the overall activities of the campaign,” he said.
DNCC Secretary Dulal Krishna Saha, Panel Mayor Aleya Sarwar Daisy, Health Officer Imdadul Haque, Deputy Health Officer Dr Firoz Alam and Chief Public Relations Officer SM Mamun were present at the press orientation program.
