BTRC fixes Lowest 45 paisa call rate for all mobile phone operators

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission- BTRC fixes Lowest 45 paisa call rate for all mobile phone operators.

All mobile phone operator companies of the country will not be able to fix call rates lower than 45 paisa. Besides they will not be able to fix call rates more than 2 taka.

The regulator on Monday issued a letter to the chief executive officer of all four mobile operators in this regard, said Md Jahurul Haque, acting chairman of the BTRC, reports UNB.

The new rate will go into effect from Monday midnight, the regulator said in the letter.

The government has approved the fresh tariff to establish ‘a level playing field’ for the country’s telecom operators, said the acting chairman.

There will be no off net or on net facility for conversation over mobile phones. At present lowest on net 25 paisa per minute, off net 60 paisa and highest limit 2 taka rates are effective in the country fixed by BTRC.

There were two types of call rates effective in the country, one was on net and the other was off net. On net means making call under the same network and off net means making phone call from one network to other mobile operator’s network.

According to BTRC sources, 45 paisa is the floor price (unified floor price) of new call rate. No call can be made to any mobile number less than this rate.

But by arranging their chosen call rates the mobile phone operators can offer those to the subscribers. The highest call rate will be 2 taka which was remaining from earlier.

Earlier the mobile phone operators had different charge for different network. So BTRC took such decision, sources said.

At the end of 2017 BTRC informed that the total number of subscribers of four mobile phone operators reached to 14 crore 51 lakh 14 thousand.

The number of internet subscribers was 8 crore 4 lakh 83 thousand.

Of these the number of subscribers of Grameenphone was 6 crore 53 lakh 27 thousand, Robi’s 4 crore 29 lakh 8 thousand, Banglalink’s 3 crore 23 lakh 84 thousand and the number of TeleTalk’s subscribers was 44 lakh 94 thousand.
